FACTS ABOUT TRANSLATION
Translation is a work of expertise.
Translation businesses are addressed with work orders for hundreds of pages in many fields from civil engineering to international law, from media to agriculture or from machinery technique to post – operational treatment. The provision of a qualified translation service embracing numerous processes such as preliminary reading, translation, check, correction, proofreading and page layout requires a great deal of persons depending on the work load.
Translation has become, in connection with the process of globalization, which is supported by the unlimited demanding of the contemporary information society, one of the most critical needs of every individual from a student drowned in academic studies to a lawyer working on strengthening his/her case, from a businessman following the developments in his industry to any executive in the business society, therefore of the whole community. As people of the time break the median limits among each other, which once put individuals apart, in order to learn more, do business and understand the other better, they need translation services even to a further extent, which leads to the requirement to be expressed and to be understood in many fields from legal issues to business and from positive sciences to social studies.
Therefore, it is the Translator’s obligation to ensure the accurate and effective information flow and to build bridges among people’s thoughts, ideas, ethic values, intentions and, beyond all, emotions. This unique and arduous burden upon the Translator’s shoulders require outstanding communications skills in at least two languages, deep knowledge in almost every field of daily life, an unmatched talent and rhetorical capability on one hand, and impose to have the ability to use words in numerous unusual syntaxes while not making concessions of linguistic harmony, therefore, to direct the concepts through the agency of sentences. Having a good grasp on the technicalities of the source language, while speaking the target language at competent level, is a sine qua non for a Translator. In that regards, a Translator is both a dedicated scientist and a creative artist. The Translator, who is to speak or type as a lawyer on one day and a financial advisor or a doctor on the other, is supposed and expected to wear the identity of sometimes a jewelry master, sometimes a script writer, a novelist and sometimes a civil engineer. What, indeed and in essence, matters is not to fight with the sentences but to export the meaning expressed in the source language to the target language by means of a harmonious syntax of proper and appropriate expressions and terms.
Producing pages of translations everyday and processing fastidiously texts with different styles, expressions and linguistic structures while managing to race the time are the usual snapshots from the daily life of the Translator. Therefore, “erudite”, “fast”, “careful”, “open – minded for exploring and learning” are the primary keywords to identify the Translator. The Translator is the person, who has steel – hard nervous infrastructure, a sharp intelligence, skillful hands, a strong pen and, most importantly, the ability to understand people.
The Translator’s brain, which stores an ocean of translations within, may at a point and time, merely forget every single piece of information it has, get stuck in a corner of despair and may even black out and run away for short recreation periods. Translation is a difficult and wearing activity in all aspects. Nevertheless, being involved in the process of translation and affixing an autograph under finished work is only a joy, a delight, an enchantment for each project in spite all the stress and hardship taken. And a slight thanking by the addressee, the requesting party ? It is so worth for all the grueling and just means so much more for the Translator than the cash cover he/she receives. No matter how insufferable the mend-bending hours and the sleepless nights we spend on producing a quality translation render our lives, the artistic zest of a smooth finished project created by all the effort makes us keep going…to the next challenge…the next victory…and the next glory.
